Caleb Computer Centre, Petrosani
The Caleb Centre aims to help the unemployed of Petrosani, as well as raising funds for the Joshua Community Centre.
The Caleb Centre in Petrosani is a self-funding computer training project, set up by Humanity at Heart in partnership with the Herepeia Foundation, an organisation to help the underprivileged and unemployed in that area.
The aim of the centre is twofold; firstly, to enable unemployed local people to obtain the necessary computer skills to gain employment, and to work with local companies to provide specific and appropriate IT training. Children's clubs, linked to local schools, have been a successful project in the past. Secondly, it functions as an internet cafe, using its profits to help fund the Joshua Community Centre.
The Caleb opened on 13th April 2002. It is run by two paid members of staff, along with a team of volunteers. At present, alongside the free training for the unemployed, the centre raises income by offering internet access and email, and printing services.
Humanity at Heart aims to help its projects become self-sufficient, and this is why the Caleb Centre is such an important part of the overall work of the Herepeia Foundation in Petrosani. By helping the management team at the Caleb with a long term financial plan, it is hoped that it will provide the majority of the funding for the Joshua Centre, thus making the centre sustainable in the long term.
The Caleb centre offers internet access and email.
